Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is the connection between our conscious and unconscious parts of the mind, and can feel the same as a daydream state. Hypnosis can feel like when we have just woken up or just before we go to sleep.

Why use hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis explores the mind and its role in disease. Many individuals realise their mind may be responsible for their complaint, and more and more people are seeking hypnotherapy to resolve the problem.

Is it safe?

Yes, it is a very safe therapy which uses no medicines. It aims to deal with the problem rather than dampen it down with tablets.

What is our conscious mind?

Our conscious mind is the part that works within our awareness. We have total control over our conscious mind, we know what is happening and can make our own decisions.

What is our unconscious mind?

This consists of all our experiences and memories. We do not have control of thoughts or behaviours arising from this part of the mind.

What are our feelings?

Feelings and emotions are represented in different parts of the body and these, too, are beyond our control. They respond to thoughts from the conscious and unconscious parts of our mind and may or may not be appropriate.

What is involved in a hypnotherapy session?

During your first session we would spend around 20 minutes looking at what problems you may need help with. We would also complete a general health questionnaire.

You would then be asked to lie on a comfortable couch and relax listening to the music in the background. All you are asked to do is then listen to Caroline's voice.

Caroline aims to guide you from the conscious, alert and rational state of mind into the internally focussed emotional state of a trance.

This is very safe and you would be able to wake up in any emergency. You will feel very calm and relaxed, and as you listen to her voice you will drift deeper and deeper into relaxation.

We would then look at areas in your life you may need help with. You are in total control during hypnosis.

After an hour or so, you will be brought carefully out of a trance, where you will feel relaxed, calm and content.

What is hypnotherapy used for?

Pain, stress, obesity, phobias, smoking cessation, dentistry, sleep, self-confidence, pure relaxation.

How many sessions would I need?

It is totally up to you. You can have a one-off session, or more. However, we do recommend at least three sessions with smoking cessation in order to learn some of the techniques. The number of sessions can be agreed during the initial assessment.

How long does a session last?

The first appointment may last up to an hour and a half. Following sessions will last around an hour.

How much does it cost?

£30 per session (1 hour)
