10-Point Health Check

We get so taken up with the fast pace of life nowadays, how often do any of us make time to go and see our GP for a health check?

Therefore, we are pleased to offer a 10-point health check, in a comfortable and relaxing environment where you will receive a professional service where modesty, dignity and confidentiality will be maintained.

The health check includes:

1. Blood pressure/pulse

It is important for us to monitor our blood pressure, as undetected or untreated high blood pressure can lead to strokes, heart attack, or other fatal conditions. Our pulse (heart beats per minute) is normally between 60 to 100 per minute.

2. Temperature

Heat is generated in the body through the chemical reaction of metabolism, the majority of excess heat being lost through the skin. This is a simple test which will indicate whether your temperature is normal, slightly raised, or needing appropriate action.

3. Peak flow (lung capacity)

This will determine the maximum rate at which you are able to exhale (blow out).

4. Urinanalysis

Checking glucose, ketones, specific gravity, blood, PH, protein, nitrate, leucocytes.

5. Blood Glucose

This checks blood sugar levels and can detect Diabetes. It is a very easy test with results in five minutes.

6. Height and weight

Height will be measured in metres and weight measured in kilograms, but will be converted to stones/pounds for you.

7. BMI (body mass index)

This is measured by comparing your weight against your height. The result is called your BMI. A BMI of less than 20 means you are underweight. 20 to 25 is normal. Over 25 is overweight.

8. Body fat

An excess of fat can lead to risk of coronary heart disease, hypertension, diabetes and some cancers.

9. Cholesterol levels

There are two types of cholesterol: LDL (bad) cholesterol deposited in arteries in the heart; and HDL (good) which removes cholesterol from the blood.

10. Stress level test

This is a questionnaire based test, to see just how stressed you are.

Extra for women (optional)

Breast self examination - using a gel filled pad to detect any lumps (modesty/privacy maintained).

How much does the health check cost?

£25 per patient (approx 1 hour). Patients will get a copy of all results.
